Dragon Momoko 1/144 Gerbera Tetra Review – Love and Hate Relationship

August 4th, 2013 | 5 Comments | Tags: ,

As I mentioned on MVPFigure FB Page, here’s the long waited review! To be honest I was so in love with the design, to the point I nearly ordered 2 of this Gerbera Tetra by Dragon Momoko, and luckily I didn’t XD. It is definitely a love hate relationship with this kit.

Gebera Tetra – Packaging

The box is surprisingly big and it gives much better quality than the Gundam Age-1 Titus I made few weeks ago. Since it is made by Dragon Momoko, the packaging and manual are written in traditional chinese character. But just like Gunpla, not like we really need to rely on the text.

However, some parts of the manual are confusing need some trial and error, mostly due to the angle and unclear instructions given, even though I can read chinese quite well.

All the runners. One of them is surprisingly huge for a 1/144 kit.

Building the upper torso. The green circle are originally long peg that insert into the grey frames. I trimmed the peg so it can fit in better. This style is definitely a pull-it-out-and-break-the-parts design.

Arms and shoulders. The colour separation is great but those little white parts at the front of lower arm armor can easily drop off. To be honest I hate the elbow joint because they are very loose.

Half done!

Unlike Bandai, this kit has unusual design to add the grey details on the legs. Inside each leg there are 4 grey parts work as the inner skin, and there are a lot of pegs there. Definitely need some trimming to fit them nicely.

Height comparison with HGUC 1/144 Zaku F2, almost the same height.

A lot of great details for a HG 1/144 kit.

The arm details and the signature thrusters on its shoulder. They are adjustable and the range is very big.

The legs are covered with nice details too. However I hate the feet there I have to snap in instead of using a PC parts. They ended up lose and can hardly hold the unit.

The good side

  • Good colour separation
  • Reasonable price
  • Hardly any defect on the part surface
  • Original design full with nice details
  • Acceptable articulation

The bad side

  • Unusual parts design that take quite some time to build for a 1/144 kit
  • Overly long peg and sometimes the holes are too tight to fit in
  • Joints are very weak. The elbow and ankle can hardly maintain the pose I want. That’s why there isn’t much photos with actions.
  • The shoulder armor pieces are always disturbed when turning the arms.
  • Soft Plastic that you don’t want to apply too much force.
  • The small parts keep falling. The round molds below the chest, the white pointy parts at the arm armor and the shoulder armor pieces.
  • Some parts need some trimming to fit in nicely

This MS will never appear in battlefield because the moment the pilot activate the backpack thrusters, it will blow up the 2 fuel tanks that position right in front of it… I guess Anaheim engineer must really hate Zeon.

Did you order this kit? What’s your comment when you build this? I pretty much sealed them into a zip lock bag and hopefully one day I’ll paint it or use them for kit bashing

Looks like a hybrid between the stock Gerbera Tetra and the Kai version.

The footing looks to me that it doesn’t like the ground… And the rear fuel tanks/thrusters… Wow… just wow. As a support stand, those two.

(and to think that this unit WAS developed by the Zeon-aligned faction within the AE)

Hi BD, nice to see u commenting on my site again XD (I’m BMecha btw)

Yup as u can see the kit itself can hardly stand thanks to the heavy backpack and the weak foot. The fuel tank is quite handy to make the kit stand lol.

As I know Gerbera Tetra was a redesign of GP04, originally created by AE. Not sure if AE handles the redesign as well, or they just pass the blue print to Zeon Remnants.

At the end of the OYW, many (if not all) of the Zeon MS companies’ workers are absorb into AE, hence I said the Zeon-aligned faction of AE.
Does the management take note of their actions? Nope. As long there’s profit, they don’t mind.
p.s. many of the Neo Zeon MS in CCA and UC are done by AE (again, by the same Zeon-aligned faction) also.

actually the AE person in charge that in contact with Shima is either suicided or killed after the Delaz incident. There was a scene near the end of star dust memory last ep.
