HGUC 1/144 GM Quel EO Custom WIP 3

Months ago, I learnt the importance of good primer / surfacer the hard way with my Jesta EO. After a lot of paint chip and heart breaking experience, this time I’m using Mr surfacer 1200 Grey for the GM Quel EO Custom.

Priming the GM Quel

Airbrushing the parts. I thinned the Mr surfacer with Mr Thinner. However the first try failed and spider web came out. Didn’t thin it enough XD. Luckily I managed to fix it.

Let the parts dry in the box for 24 hours to make sure they are fully settled down.

24 hours after priming, I did a test fit and minor sanding for uneven parts.

Die Zaku die!

1st and 2nd Airburshing

Few days later, I’m adding some base colour to the parts. I can’t find Mr Color in Brunei hobby shops so I’m using Tamiya Acrylic instead. However base on the outcome, I still prefer Mr Color T__T…

My color Guide

  • White (Gloss) – Main colour
  • Black (Gloss) – Backpack and Gatling Guns
  • Red (Gloss) 50% + Yellow (Gloss) 50% – Upper torsor, shoulder, feet
  • German Grey (Flat) – For joints / inner frames

The best part of Acrylic Paint, less toxic smell.

I think the white coats are too thick, it had minor orange peel effect. Not good with Acrylic :(

Actually this is 2nd round after the white part above. I mixed 50% Yellow + 50% Red and spray to the white base colour to create the orange red effect.

Acrylic take ages to dry and settle, mine took more than 24 hours.

Waiting for next weekend and holiday to do the 2nd coat, mainly for the grey tone and metallic parts such as verniers, Gatling guns, joints.
