HGUC 1/144 GM Quel EO Custom WIP 5

This is getting longer and longer because I did many mistakes when dealing with paints. To be honest, this build is taken too long and I’m tired of it.

Redo the Priming and Painting

After the heartbreaking “China Toy with melting paint job” comment, I stripped the paint with break fluid and redo the priming and painting for this kit.

I primed a layer of Mr Surfacer 1200 to cover the sanded area. Some pla plates are added to give extra details on the shields and legs.

Choosing Mr Color (Lacquer) Paint for Airbrush

Mr Color works very well with Mr Surfacer and the paint coat is much stronger than other type of paints. It seems very smooth since I can cover the base colour with lesser coats. Thanks Billy for helping me to get the paint from Singapore!

  • Red– Mr Color Red (Gloss) 45% + Mr Color Yellow (Gloss) 40% + Mr Color White (Gloss) 15%
  • White – Mr Color White (Gloss) + Mr Color Black (Gloss) few drops.
  • Gold (Joints & Details) – Mr Color Gold
  • Silver (Thrusters & Details) – Mr Color Silver
  • Gunmetal (Joints & Backpack) – Gaia Notes Gunmetal

Mr Color Black (Gloss) is used as the base coat. The silver colour seems better with shinier metallic look.

I was thinking to keep the Mr surfacer’s light grey colour, however panel line did not work on the rough surface. So a layer of white is added to the GM Quel.

The Gatling guns, backpack, armor and joints are painted with Gaia Notes Gunmetal. The silver and gold details are hand painted with nylon brush.

As the last step, I have attached some simple decals on the chest and foots. Since I don’t have a flat clear with me, I de-can the RJ London Dull Lacquer spary and top coat the kit using airbrush. The metallic parts are masked so it doesn’t turn dull XD.
